This will be an enthralling presentation in collaboration with the VCBG, the Victorian Clubbies, led by Les Bone. It is on a Wednesday, but the wealth of knowledge that the speaker has makes this a not to miss event right up there with the informative oil presentation in February.

Paul Beranger, our speaker for the evening, started his automotive design career in 1968, at Holden’s new Technical Centre in Port Melbourne. Here he worked on a range of programs, including the HQ Holden and LJ and LH Torana. He also designed the interior of Holden’s GTR-X sports car, which never made it into production. During his nine years at Holden he worked in GM’s Michigan design studios and visited both Opel and Vauxhall design, during the company’s first global car program, the T car Gemini.

In 1977 Paul left Holden and established a design studio for Nissan Australia, working on a range of local and imported vehicles, before setting up Nissan’s Special Vehicles Division. This produced a range of low-volume performance cars, culminating in the importation and conversion of the Nissan four-wheel drive R32 GT-R.  Following the closure of Nissan’s Clayton manufacturing plant he moved to Millard Design, working on local Holden, Toyota and Ford programs, as well as serving customers in Korea, Russia, Indonesia, the US and China.  In 2002, he joined Toyota Australia and established a world -class design studio in Port Melbourne, developing a range of Toyota models for the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

Paul retired from full time design in 2012 and now consults and judges in various design competitions and car shows. As well as spending over two years writing Crayon to CAD, the history of post-war automotive design in Australia, he also writes motoring articles for magazines such as Wheels and Australian Muscle Car.
