Itinerary:
After the opening of the first bridge across the River Murray in 1860, Wodonga, along with its twin city Albury, was founded as a customs port monitoring trade between the two states. Today, Wodonga is the fastest growing regional city in Victoria..,.and it is about to experience its most exciting four days for 2025.
Day 1 Friday - Starting (and finishing) at the Blazing (not black) Stump Motel where you’ll be warmly welcomed, suitably refreshed and comfortably ensconced. Arrival check-in is between 1:00 and 5:00 pm prior to a welcoming buffet dinner. So do not eat or drink to excess, because the action gets underway early the next day.
Day 2 Saturday - Up bright and early for breakfast, then grab those microfibre cloths, polish up your Lotus and get ready to Wow Wodonga with our heart of the city concours at Junction Square.
Then grab your lunch pack (you’ll be told where to collect it from) and line up for your long or short tour. Oh, you’ll also be given a sticker to put on your car. I’m told they’re not toxic, but they are merely to indicate to which tour group you belong. And at the end of a long, fun-filled day, a hard-earned thirst needs a big cold beer and the best cold beer is …well, the one you’re drinking!
The day ends with an evening dinner
Day 3 Sunday - Choices, choices, choices, choices!
1st choice: TRACK DAY!! Woo-hoo!! At Wodonga Tafe Driving Complex, 20 minutes from the Blazing Saddles, oops! sorry, Blazing Stump under the eagle eye of Robert Pepper…but you’re not much better off than Colin’s crew as you need to be at the track by 8:00 am. To participate - select the applicable ticket at $200pp
Second choice: much more civilised, 10:00 am start bus tour to Bonegilla migrant camp experience where you get to walk in the footsteps of the 320,000 migrants who made this their first Australian home (including the original members of AC/DC – hell’s bells!). Then on to the track for lunch with passenger laps on offer – but no vomit comet experiences thankyouverymuch. After lunch, a tour of Adamshurst. Originally a private home built by the newspaper owner George Adams, it was extended in the early 20th century under the direction of architect Gordon McKinnon who also designed the original city council building (now Art Gallery) in Dean Street Albury. Today a haven for fostering the arts. Prepare to be enthralled. Tickets for this bus tour are $100pp
Finally, option four – free time. Explore Wonderful Wodonga but be back in time to tart yourselves and get on the coach for a drive to the grand Gala Dinner at St Leonards Winery in Wahgunyah, in their famous Barrel Hall. Eat, drink, be merry and try not to make a fool of yourself. On the other hand…
Day 4 Monday - The Last Supper…well, breakfast. For some, the start of a long journey home. For all, the satisfaction of knowing you have had the most fun with a Lotus over the previous three days that you could ever have. And for impressing the Wodonga locals with your Lotus.
